2003 ford f-250 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A hard-working truck, now more civilized than ever. introductionford super duty trucks out-sell the heavy-duty pickups from chevrolet and dodge combined. Ford has improved them for 2003.  a new 6. 0-liter diesel engine brings more power and reduced emissions to the super duty line. The standard 5. 4-liter v8 gas engine has been revised for quieter and more refined operation. The base interior is nicer, and a power sliding moon roof is available for crew cabs. Those changes, plus new option packages make the 2003 f-350 and f-250 models more people-friendly.  still, these trucks aren't designed to be family-sedan substitutes that make an occasional run to home depot. Ford's full-size but lighter-duty f-150 is more than enough truck for that job. The super duty pickups look like serious big rigs, and they are.  ford super duty trucks don't offer the chassis sophistication of the newer designs from gm and dodge, but their new and revised powertrains are first-class.  . lineuplike most domestic pickups, the ford super duty is offered in more configurations than any normal human can count. Any one of them can pull anything from a horse trailer to an airstream camper. They are all the truck most consumers will ever need. (if not, ford builds bigger f-450, f-550, f-650, and f-750 trucks for the commercial market.)  f-250 and f-350 are available in regular-cab, extended-cab (supercab) and crew cab configurations. F-350 models are available with single rear wheels (srw) or dual rear wheels (drw). The latter, often called 'duallies,' are good for towing as they offer higher tongue-weight ratings.  ford super duty f-250 competes with the other heavyweights from detroit: dodge ram 2500, chevrolet silverado 2500, and gmc sierra 2500. F-350 dual rear wheel trucks compete with the 3500-series models from gm and dodge. Xl models are pretty basic, with only a two-speaker stereo and fixed-interval wipers. Air conditioning 805) is optional. The skid plates 100) are also available as a stand-alone option.  xlt sport package 895) is offered on 2003 crew cabs as well as supercabs. The package includes chromed tubular step bars, an exclusive twill cloth 40/20/40 split-bench front seat, body-color exterior accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear sliding window, fog lamps and privacy glass. Options for this package include a reverse proximity sensor 245), a great feature on these big trucks, and a power driver's seat 290). Exterior color choices have been expanded from just one, black, to include white, gray, blue, and red.  the king ranch package is available for 2003 super duty trucks, which dresses the interior in premium leather interior trim, and accents the exterior with body-color mirror housings and door handles, arizona beige wheel lip moldings, lighted running boards, premium aluminum wheels and a choice of three exterior colors: estate green, chestnut and oxford white.  . walkaroundford super duty pickups are arguably the best-looking heavy duty pickups available. The new heavy-duty rams are more stylish, while the gm trucks are too conservatively styled. The fords have a brawny, no-nonsense look that is appealing.  unlike ford f-150 pickups, the f-250 super duty looks like a big rig. While 2003 f-150s have rounded edges, the super duty trucks look bluff-nosed and serious. Their menacing, square-jawed front ends, brawny raised hoods and aggressive headlamps announce significant engineering differences between a garden-variety f-150 and a super duty. Super duty trucks ride on an entirely different platform from f-150 models.  super duty's dropped beltline gives it a sense of openness and accessibility. It also makes it easier to climb in, a welcome feature when juggling tools, briefcases, or even toddlers. A distinctive dip along the front door side glass improves the driver's view of the exterior mirrors, a big help when towing a trailer or for seeing around cargo boxes or dump truck bodies. A locking tailgate is standard.  new telescoping trailer mirrors are available for 2003; they feature power adjustments, heated glass and integral turn signal repeaters, and telescope manually.  . interiorford super duty trucks are very roomy, with comfortable and spacious seats and plenty of hip and shoulder room.  truck owners spend a lot of time in their vehicles, so the designers at ford paid a lot of attention to comfort and convenience. The interior features a fold-down armrest, a floor console that can accommodate a laptop, and a removable hanging storage bin that can attach to the dash. Controls are big and easy to reach and manipulate. The only exception is the instrument panel dimmer, which is a bit hard to reach. Two large cupholders are provided. The standard cigar lighter is augmented with a second auxiliary power outlet. The instrument cluster includes a transmission temperature gauge when an automatic transmission is ordered.  xl models have been upgraded for 2003 with higher-quality cloth and vinyl on the standard bench seat, and a bucket seat option 390). Inboard armrests and a driver-side grab handle are standard on all 2003 models.  passenger-side airbags offer a deactivation switch on regular cab and supercab models. The rear seat cushion folds up and forward and the seatback folds down to create a flat, steel loading surface, a perfect place to put tools and other heavy items that need to stay secure and out of the elements. The rear doors are 25 inches wide. They hinge on the rear pillars of the cab and swing out a full 90 degrees from the doorsill, a design that eases the loading of gear and passengers. Hidden vertical beams and a cross brace where the front and rear doors meet contribute to occupant safety.  . driving impressionford super duty's standard 5. 4-liter v8 is rated 260 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque. The 6. 8-liter v10 is rated 310 hp and 425 lbs.-ft. Both triton engines employ overhead cams for valve control.  sophisticated computer analysis has given the 5. 4-liter v8 a stiffer engine block for 2003, reducing radiated noise by as much as 3. 1 decibels.  a new 6. 0-liter diesel engine is available for 2003 models that's cleaner, more efficient, and more powerful than the outgoing 7. 3-liter diesel. Though smaller in displacement, the new 6. 0-liter turbo-diesel v8 is rated 550 lbs.-ft. Of torque at 2000 rpm. The outgoing 7. 3-liter power stroke turbo-diesel, available on early 2003 models, offered 525 lbs.-ft. The 6. 0-liter engine produces 325 hp at 3300 rpm, compared with the 7. 3-liter's 275 hp at 2800.  a six-speed manual transmission is standard on all ford super duty models. It doesn't seem to fill rural roads as much as the dodge trucks do. Steering is precise. Handling is good, though not as good as the newer designs from dodge and gm. Body roll is noticeably limited when cornering. Their real beauty lies in their capabilities, however.  new and revised powertrains make ford's heavy-duty pickups more capable and, therefore, more attractive. The new 6. 0-liter turbo-diesel is drawing rave reviews and is available with a new five-speed automatic.  . model lineupf-250: 4x2 regular cab 137-in. Wheelbase xl 21,120); 4x4 regular cab 137-in. 2004 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The f-150 is the most important, most profitable vehicle ford makes. With nearly 900,000 annual sales, the f-150 has been the best-selling vehicle (car or truck) in america for 21 consecutive years.  now, they've thrown away the old formula and created a brand new f-150 from the ground up.  ford admits the new f-150 is bigger, heavier, and more expensive to build than the wildly successful previous version. It is also the best-handling, quietest, most car-like full-size pickup truck in the history of the world. All of the new f-150 models feature all-new interiors that show attention to detail. The seats vary, but all are comfortable and supportive. Each boasts its own interior style and features engines, suspensions and cab configurations designed to meet specific needs. It features an all-new work-truck interior and comes with all the basics such as 40/20/40 bench seats in vinyl or cloth, an all-plastic dashboard, a black grille and 17-inch steel wheels. Xl is available in regular cab or supercab styles. An f-150 xl regular cab 2wd automatic retails for $21,215, while a long-wheelbase (145-inch) 4x4 is priced at $24,855.  stx is sportier than the xl, with a body-colored grille surround for the black bar grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Stx comes in styleside (flat) and flareside (fendered) body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional. An stx starts at $22,215. (manufacturer's suggested retail prices do not include the destination charge of $795.)  xlt is ford's volume model and comes with its own egg crate grille style. A premium cloth interior is standard on the bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash. Supercrew and supercab versions offer power rear windows. The xlt comes with the new overhead rail console system and fog lamps when ordered as a 4x4. Xlt supercab 4x4 4. 6-liter v8 automatic retails for $30,085 msrp.  fx4 is a specialty 4x4 off-road model. Fx4 comes only in a stepside version with special chrome interior trim and markings, and a floor console with floor shifter. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab and supercrew body styles with either 5. 5-foot styleside or 6. 5-foot flareside or styleside bed designs (no 8-foot bed). The standard engine is the 300-horsepower 5. 4-liter 3-valve-per-cylinder v8, which ford says has the best fuel consumption of any v8 engine it has ever built. The fx4 has its own instrument package as do the rest of the models, with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather and the audiophile system are optional, and 18-inch cast aluminum wheels are optional. An f-150 fx4 supercab 4x4 5. 4-liter v8 automatic retails for $32,185.  lariat is the luxury model and, for the time being, sits at the top of the line. Lariat has its own grille design and comes standard with 18-inch wheels. It amplifies the all-new interior with black-on-cream instrumentation, lots of wood trim and brushed metal, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shiny floor shifter mounted in a floor console. A power 40/20/40 split bench seat with seat memory is standard, along with power adjustable floor pedals, an in-dash message center, and climate control. Heated power leather captain's chairs are optional. Lariat 2wd models are available in all three body styles, but 4x4 versions are only available with styleside fenders. The nearest competitor has only 12 variations, a fact that ford hopes will bring more people into its dealerships. In addition to the 26 variants of the f-150 within the five model ranges, there are dozens of options,. walkaroundall ford f-150s now have the front window style popularized on the f-250 and f-350 super duty pickups: a sharp cut in the forward part of the door sheet metal that drops away to allow much clearer viewing of the large rearview mirrors on both sides.  the whole nose is shaped more squarely, the grilles are larger and bolder, the bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is more sculpted, and every bed, no matter which length or style, is two inches taller than previous beds to give more margin when hauling larger cargoes. It's the seven-crossmember skeleton onto which everything else bolts, and accounts for quite a bit of the nearly 675 pounds more weight of the new f-150 compared to the old truck. The frame is nine times more resistant to twisting and 50 percent more resistant to bending than the old c-shaped frame.  the front suspension is a completely new double-wishbone style for both 2wd and 4wd versions. The rear suspension now has outboard, rather than inboard, shock absorbers to control the rear end of the truck better in quick maneuvers, along with wider, heavier three-inch leaf springs.  the steering has been changed to a heavy-duty power-assisted rack-and-pinion system. The ford truck folks committed only one unpardonable by us: the clear plastic over the instrument pod is way, way too reflective and makes most of the instruments difficult to see in bright sunlight. Ford says that, between these two things, the 5. 4-liter engine, which makes a nice, round 300 horsepower and 335 foot-pounds of torque, is also the fuel-stingiest engine the company has ever tested. 2007 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth ride, sharp handling, serious capability. introductionthe ford f-150 comes in a broad range of models, yet they all seem to have nicely balanced suspensions that make them enjoyable to drive and well-designed, comfortable cabs.  they offer a quiet and refined ride over dirt roads, rough pavement and freeway slabs. Yet they also offer controlled handling, with a minimum of body roll in corners. The steering is responsive for cornering and these trucks track like a laser beam on the highway. Brakes are smooth and responsive. The big 5. 4-liter v8 is smooth and quiet, and delivers quick acceleration. It's rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque and 15/19 mpg city/highway. The 4. 6-liter v8 and 4. 2-liter v6 engines perform well, also.  the f-150 comes in six distinct variants to meet the different needs of a wide range of owners. Within those variants are three cab choices, three bed lengths, three bed styles, and a choice of powertrains. Ford claims more than 60 possible variations. The f-150 is known for its toughness, strength, and cargo capacity, while offering interior design and comfort. Its amenities show attention to detail.  the base xl is surprisingly nice inside. The fx4's optional captain's chairs are comfortable. The lariat is classy and nicely equipped, with every known amenity. The king ranch has a western feel that's very inviting. The supercrew features a back seat that's roomy and comfortable for adults. Since then, the model lineup has expanded with new trim levels, variations, and specialty models. The 2007 models feature more than a dozen subtle improvements inside and out. Among them:  seat comfort has been enhanced for 2007. A tire-pressure monitoring system now comes standard. Lariat and xlt models get new grilles for 2007. A 5. 4-liter e85 flexible fuel v8 is available, and power for the 4. 6-liter v8 is increased for 2007. A new dvd navigation system and sirius satellite radio are available, and an auxiliary audio input jack is now standard on most models. Power folding mirrors are now available on 2007 fx4 and lariat models, a useful feature for parking in tight quarters.  towing and hauling capacities have been increased for 2007, and ford claims the f-150 is the most capable truck in its class. Properly equipped, a 2007 ford f-150 can tow 10,500 pounds or haul more than 3,050 pounds in the bed. lineupthe 2007 ford f-150 is available in six distinct trim levels: xl, stx, xlt, fx2/fx4, lariat, and king ranch. Each boasts its own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs.  engines include a 4. 2-liter v6, a 4. 6-liter v8, and a 5. 4-liter v8. The 4. 6-liter v8 comes standard in the popular models. The flexible fuel version of the 5. 4-liter v8 can run on e85 ethanol.  the xl 18,220) is the budget-priced f-150 with a work-truck interior: vinyl-covered 40/20/40 bench seats with manually adjustable lumbar support for the driver, black vinyl floor covering, and an all-plastic dashboard housing a basic am/fm radio. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard for 2007. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia, painted silver bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. Regular cab and supercab (extended cab) styles are available, and the latter comes with air conditioning. Popular models include the f-150 xl regular cab 2wd short wheelbase model with a 4. 6-liter v8 and automatic 20,635) and the v6 and manual gearbox 18,790); a supercab long-wheelbase 4wd with a v8 and automatic is also available 27,275). Chrome bumpers and cloth seats are optional.  the stx 22,765) is sportier than the xl, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for its black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, air conditioning, and a cd player with an auxiliary audio input jack come standard. Stx comes in styleside and flareside body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional.  the xlt 25,065) is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl or stx. It comes with chrome bumpers and a chrome-trimmed black honeycomb grille that set it apart from the other models. Carpeting is standard, as is premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash; and power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry are standard. The xlt features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4wd xlts.  the fx4 30,515) is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, chrome accents, and black rubber off-road floor mats; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique bar-style grille, wheel-lip moldings highlighting 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or dark shadow gray bumpers, depending on paint choice. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, but the long (8-foot) bed is not available. The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and the standard bench seat adds manually adjustable lumbar support for the passenger. Among the models is the f-150 fx4 supercrew 4wd 35,495).  the new fx2 is a 2wd model that comes in supercab 28,570) or super crew 30,970) versions with a styleside box. It includes a dark accent billet-style grille insert with body color grille surround, unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, available 20-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, fog lamps, unique captain's chairs with center console and floor-mounted shifter, and a body color front bumper, rear bumper, door and tailgate handles.  the lariat is the luxury model, di. walkaroundin the late 1990s, f-150 went aerodynamically curvy, and although it remained number one in sales, not everyone liked the look. So for 2004, ford returned the f-150 to its square-shouldered roots, with a more utilitarian look that continues essentially unchanged for 2007.  it's a functional look, but in its own way it's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram. In fact, the f-150 has a unique image, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. It's at once crisp, bold, and sturdy.  in short, we think the f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 shares styling cues with ford's handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp downward drop in the forward part of the door windows, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure.  the nose is square in concept, with a large, bold, big-rig grille opening. Yet the front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through to the tailgate. F-150 is both upscale and utilitarian, a look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, arizona beige on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch wear bar-style grilles.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is more than 22 inches deep, for a generous margin when hauling larger cargoes. The basic xl is surprisingly nice. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which has a western feel that's very inviting. We love the king ranch, but it's not for everyone.  in recent years we've found the f-150's front bench seats flat and unsupportive. The seats have been improved for 2007 models, however, and ford says they provide more support and comfort. The front bench is still split three ways: the center section flips down to reveal a console with storage and cup holders. The big difference in the back seats between supercrew and supercab models is rear legroom: 39. 0 inches for supercrew, 32. 7 inches for supercab. 2006 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's also stylish, among the best-looking in a group of handsome full-size pickups for the 2006 model year.  properly equipped, an f-150 can tow 9,900 pounds or haul more than 3,000 pounds in the bed. The f-150 is comfortable as well, with a quiet and refined ride and comfortable interiors that show attention to detail. Handling is excellent for a pickup.  the f-150 earned a five-star safety rating from the government (nhtsa) in frontal crash testing and was named a 'best pick' in offset-crash rating from the insurance institute for highway safety. F-150 comes equipped with dual frontal airbags designed to deploy according to the severity of the crash and who or what is occupying the seat. Ford has not significantly changed the f-150 since then except to expand the lineup every year with new trim levels, variations, and specialty models.  for 2006, supercrew (crew cab) models will be available with a longer, 6. 5-foot bed; as well as the standard 5. 5-foot short bed. A limited-production harley-davidson edition, previously offered on super duty models, is now available as an f-150 supercab (extended cab). The xl, stx, xlt, fx4, lariat, and king ranch each boast their own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs. Wheelbases as long as 163. 0 inches (e. G., a supercab with the 8-foot long bed) are available.  three engines are offered: a 4. 2-liter v6, a 4. 6-liter v8, and a 5. 4-liter v8. In the models most consumers will buy, the 4. 6-liter v8 is standard. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia, painted silver bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. Regular cab and supercab (extended cab) styles are available, and the latter comes with air conditioning (an $850 option on regular cabs). An f-150 xl regular cab 2wd short wheelbase model with a 4. 6-liter v8 and automatic retails for $20,635, or $18,790 with a v6 and manual gearbox; a supercab long-wheelbase 4wd with a v8 and automatic retails for $27,275. Chrome bumpers and cloth seats are optional.  stx is sportier than the xl, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for the black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, a cd player, and air conditioning come standard. Stx comes in styleside and flareside body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional. An stx 2wd flareside retails for $23,030.  xlt is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl. It comes with chrome bumpers and a honeycomb grille that sets it apart from the other models. Carpeting is standard, as is a premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash; and power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry are standard. The xlt features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4wd xlts. An xlt supercrew 4wd 5. 4-liter v8 automatic retails for $34,055.  fx4 is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, and chrome accents; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique grille, 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or dark shadow gray bumpers, depending on paint choice. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, but the long (8-foot) bed is not available. The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional. An f-150 fx4 supercrew 4wd retails for $35,495.  lariat is the luxury model, distinguished visually by a unique grille design (chrome housing around arizona beige insert) and bright-finish 18-inch aluminum wheels. Bumpers are chrome or arizona beige. Lariat features black-on-cream instruments, lots of wood trim and brushed metal, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shiny floor shifter mounted in a floor console. A power-adjustable and leather-trimmed 40/20/40 split bench seat with seat memory is standard, along with power-adjustab. walkaroundin the late 1990s, f-150 went aerodynamically curvy, and although it remained number one in sales, not everyone liked the look. So for 2004, ford returned the f-150 to its square-shouldered roots, with a more utilitarian look that continues essentially unchanged for 2006.  it's a functional look, but in its own way it's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure.  the whole nose is square in concept, with a large, bold, big-rig grille opening. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, arizona beige on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch wear a bar-style grille.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is more than 22 inches deep, for a generous margin when hauling larger cargoes. The basic xl is surprisingly nice. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which evokes images of texas and cowboys. We love the king ranch, but it's not for everyone.  we found the xlt's front bench seats attractive, but they are flat and lack support. The front bench is split three ways. The center section flips down to reveal a center console with storage and cup holders. They also looked great, trimmed in black leather with light gray stitching. Adjusting the power seats may be a little awkward for drivers with big arms, however, because the clearance between the door armrest and the seat is a little tight. Rake adjustment on the power driver's seat is manual, and raking it forward can be a bit awkward. The center console between the captain's chairs is deep, holds a lot of stuff, and features a pair of big, solid cup holders. The floor shifter for the automatic transmission works very well.  radio and hvac (heater) controls are plain but straightforward and easy to operate. Lariat comes with every known. 2008 ford ranger review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The ford ranger has been america's best-selling compact pickup for 17 years running. The 3. 0-liter v6 and 4. 0-liter v6 engines produce 148 and 207 horsepower, respectively. Available transmissions include a standard five-speed manual gearbox and an optional five-speed automatic. For 2008, the ford ranger is a carryover from 2007 with a redesigned front bumper. Anti-lock Brakes

2010 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Comprehensive line of superb pickups. introductionthe ford f-150 is the best-selling pickup in america. All are highly capable trucks, even those loaded with luxury features. The f-150 was completely redesigned for 2009. So for 2010, changes are limited to packaging.  smooth and quiet, the f-150 is comfortable on bumpy streets around town, over rugged terrain such as that found at construction sites, and on the open road. Its steering is nicely waited and requires little correction on the highway making it nice for long cross-country tows. Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required and keeps overhead down.  with one of the deepest beds in the segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,030 pounds. A properly equipped regular cab f-150 is rated to tow up to 11,300 pounds; other models max out in the 9,000-pound range. (the ford super duty range of heavy-duty pickups is covered in a separate new car test drive review.)  three v8 engines are offered. It is rated at 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet on gasoline (epa 14/20 mpg) and 320 horsepower and 390 pound-feet on e85 with mileage dropped to 10/14 mpg. The mykey programmable vehicle key is standard on all models except the base xl trim level. Supercab trucks add higher fx4 and lariat trim levels, and a short-bed option (about 5. 5 feet) on all but xl models. The flareside bed can not be combined with xl or lariat supercabs. A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty 5. 4-liter package. The supercrew f-150, available with either the short or standard bed, drops the stx grade and adds king ranch and platinum derivatives.  the f-150 xl 21,380) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels, black bumper/grille/mirrors, and vinyl upholstery and floor covering. More equipment is available, including 18-inch wheels, sirius radio, sync, cruise control, fog lamps and power mirrors.  xlt (from $25,575) adds chrome for bumpers and trim, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, carpeting, cruise control, power windows and locks, better cloth upholstery and, on longer cabs, the three-valve 4. 6-liter v8 and six-speed automatic transmission. All manner of options are available on the xlt, including three sizes of wheels, tailgate step, cargo management and towing equipment.  fx4 (from $35,090) comes with a black grille and body-colored bumpers, trim and mirrors. Options include infotainment and 17-inch (for more severe off-road use) or 20-inch wheels. Chrome trim and bumpers highlight monotone paint, and the lariat adds heated mirrors with signal repeaters and auto-dimming on the driver's and inside, dual-zone climate control, heated power leather seats with driver memory, leather wheel with redundant audio controls, tow package, sync, trip computer, and power adjustable pedals. Options include 20-inch wheels, heated/cooled front seats, sony sound and navigation, trailer brake controller, rear camera and park sensors, and moonroof.  king ranch (from $40,200) is like a lariat with a different attitude. It adds two-tone paint and kr badges, unique wheels, mesh chrome grille, chaparral leather heated and cooled power captain’s chairs with driver memory, running boards, and power folding, heated, signal outside mirrors with chrome caps. Options are essentially limited to a limited-slip differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start.  platinum supercrew (from $42,075) gets a unique satin chrome grille and the only one not styled as three sections, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captain’s chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power folding/heated mirrors, and unique console. It will start with the 310-hp 5. 4-liter v8 and later get a high-performance engine option, a 6. 2-liter v8 of about 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. But it is the long-travel high-performance suspension, wheels and tires that set it apart, and the assertive styling.  the f-150 option list is comprehensive and, although it has been simplified in recent years, it can still resemble the tax code to the uninitiated; there are, for example, three codes for a sliding rear window and five for trailer towing mirrors. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, and many features are standard on more expensive models. In addition, sometimes the prices of the options vary by trim level.  mechanical options include upgrades to either the three-valve 4. 6 engine or the 5. 4-liter, alternate axle ratios, limited-slip differential, larger tires and upgraded wheels, electric-shift 4wd, skid plates, towing mirrors, snow plow prep, trailer brake controller, 35-gallon long-bed fuel tank, tailgate step, heavy-duty payload package, and ford works systems like an in-dash computer. Other upgrades include captain's chairs bucket seats with center console, power sliding rear window, rear-view camera, reverse parking sensors, dual-coat or two-tone paint, moonroof, sirius radio, sound systems, remote start, and navigation.  safety features that come standard include antilock brakes, stability control (advancetrac rsc), trailer sway control, frontal airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Safety-related options include an integrated trailer brake controller, rear-view camera, and reverse park sensors. walkaroundthe angular lines of the ford f-150 mean it's easier to clean, easier to park, and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. Some bulge to the hood and large grille openings imply power, as does the higher altitude of 4wd models; many models have big graphics to ensure everyone knows what it is. The view rearward can be aided by extendable towing mirrors, a rear camera, and a power sliding rear window. We found the towing mirrors work very well.  pillars between the doors (called b-pillars) and the rear hand-hold on the pillar may yield an awkward blind spot for some drivers, but everyone should appreciate the windshield pillars (called a-pillars) shaped to help preserve forward vision.
